PvP is fun! sometime my guild will say "GL" or "HF" to other team but most of the time, we don't say anything and just fight till there a winner! But when the game end, we usually say good game to the other team.

The other reason I mention it is because I'd rather fight a team that's not terrible. While it can be fun to win 10 to 0 in the lava arena, I think I'd rather have a 5-4 close victory. It's the really close games that leave me feeling satisfied no matter if I've won or lost. Plus in the tough fights I usually learn the most. So the g/l is (to me) more in the spirit of, "fight well".

i usually only say good game if it really was one.
saying "gg" when my team just slaughtered the other one without breaking a sweat would seem a bit like mockery to me

Anonymity = No repercussion
For people raised where the only thing preventing them from misdeeds is punishment, when you take away the looming punishment, there's nothing holding them back.
This isn't restricted to any particular race, nationality, or age set. (Although, there's probably a loose correlation with age.)
Some people have simply figured that out and realized they can get away with quite a bit, and so they do it, whether it's being foul-mouthed bad sports or purposely AFKing in a mission or in PvP to gain a free ride.
No different from anywhere else really, though. It's just more pronounced. There're those who'd steal from friends easily in real life, given reassurance they couldn't be caught. Those who'd plagiarize the works of another for a class. And so on and so forth. Just a little perspective check, goodness knows I need them once and a while.

In America where we're inclined to apply a lesser degree of discipline to our children (in general) it should be no surprise that some kids will demonstrate rude behavior. But it's not a reflection on the habits of ALL American kids and even less of a reflection on Americans as a whole. Remember that it only takes a vocal minority to make us all look bad - so don't hold it against us. We (meaning most Americans from the US) are as annoyed by seeing rude behavior as anyone else.
I was born in the U.S. but lived abroad for several years in Europe and in the West Indies - and I noticed that most people's impression of the U.S. comes from our movies and television. I'll be the first to announce that those Hollywood portrayals are caracatures of real American life - sensationalized for the sake of entertainment. The U.S. is so large and diverse it isn't hard to find maladjusted folk to sit on Jerry Springer (for example) - but that's not what Americans are like.

Personally, I enjoy seeing other players take the time to wish everyone good luck. I feel that's just good sportsmanship. This is, after all, just a game. In theory, the better team will win, and lesser team will lose.
Admittedly, in PUG's in Arena, I'm usually too busy getting coordinated with my current group to converse with the other team much.
But after the game, I always say good game or /salute. No one should get their feelings hurt by losing, and at the same time, winning doesn't necessarily mean you are better. Sometimes you just get lucky. Nothing is ever certain...
When I win, it's "good game." If I lose, it's "good game" and I'll hope to meet them again. Either way, I hope everyone had fun.
It makes no sense to insult someone who's only wish is for everyone to "have fun". It is, after all, a game.

u really need to cool off. seriously. just becuz u get into a team that is in a bad mood dosen't mean that you have to flame everyone for it. i mean, i usually say stuff like that, and i get positive responses. and the part where u said "Euro Sucks" i saw a guy that actually wanted to TRANSFER to Europe not say it sucks. and when he asked how, no on flamed him for being a Euro lover and told him how to do it.

I love being the one attacked in GvG. When the other team is standing at the catapult saying things like, "come out and fight", I just respond with stuff like "I fart in your general direction!" "Your mother was a newt and your father smelled of elderberries!"
It usually gets a laugh or two. The first time I did it, my guild leader whispered to me, "don't be so mean to them, its only a game". I had to explain to him about John Cleese, Eric Idle and the boys.

Well you better be sure the other team understands as well.
In a different game I came across a clan with the interesting initials "BFD" - which has a specific vulgar meaning where I grew up. I commented on it thinking I was in on their "inside joke." Turns out they were a Japanese clan that naturally thought I was insulting them. In the end I was able to explain myself - but the atmosphere was rather uncomfortable until then.

I have no offence to anyone telling me gl hf. I have never seen anyone ever get upset about it. I did it all the time in my previous game and then everyone started chanting in. This was an american team too. Its just that "gg" at the end of the match that annoys the hell out of me. I know you really don't mean it so cut the crap. I also think of it like whoever says it to be arrogantly saying it. Like gg noob.

GG and g/l
I have been brought up (In Canada) with a few specific guildlines to live by:
1. Second place is the first loser
2. Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing.
3. Be gracious in Winning and Losing.
4. Be a realist.
See, where the problem arises is with people that feel that 1&2 cant coexist with 3&4.
I hate to lose and will not say gg unless it truely was one (like a previous poster said, a 10-0 pasting is not a GG), but I also wont offer up excuses, rants, blame.
I don't ever say g/l, because in reality I want all the good luck (see #4). But I would never trash talk, slander, or insult other teams unless done so in humour.
So I think the lesson I am trying to follow is another failry good life lesson:
If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all....unless you are quoting Monty Python.

Hamster. Your mother was a HAMSTER and your father smelled of elderberries.
You're confusing that quote with "She turned me into a newt. But I got better.."

I am american and I have no problem with the gg, gl, or hf. In fact from my RTS background it was something that was always done. I have never seen anyone get upset when any of these things are said. Not on GW or any other game. But seeing how PvP is intended to be competive I am always so tempted to throw the line from the book "Dune"
-"May thy knife chip and shatter."
It just seems to fit the fantasy gladiator aspect so perfectly.

Here's a man who gets the point.
Well said Sereng!~
I wonder if the same people who pitch a fit in game would do the same in real life? I used to think no, but as of late I find myself wondering!
